Where Do Patients Receive Services?

Home – Most patients receive care at home. Surveys show that most patients prefer to stay in their own homes at the end of their lives surrounded by those they love. The hospice team of professionals work; closely with the patient and their primary physician. Hospice teaching families and friends how to care for the ones they love. The hospice staff visits often and provides quality care and teaching to support the patient and caregivers.

Long Term Care Facilities – We see patients in various types of facilities: life care communities, assisted living facilities and skilled nursing homes. Please ask for the Hospice brochure on Long Term Care Facilities.

Inpatient Unit – If inpatient care is required, these are just some of the hospitals our patients can be admitted to: Hospice Unit at Broward General Medical Center, Holy Cross Hospital, North Broward Hospital (Broward County), Baptist Hospital (Dade County), Plantation Key Convalescent Center (Transition Room), Mariner's Hospital (Upper Keys), Lower Keys Medical Center (Individual Contract – Monroe County).
Admission to an inpatient bed is for control of acute pain and symptoms which can not be controlled at home. Once the problem is stabilized the patient will return home or to another place of residence and be cared for by our hospice home team staff.

Bougainvilla – The “Bougainvilla Residence” is located at 1727 SE 4th Avenue, in Fort Lauderdale (around the corner from our office). It opened on March 2, 1995 and provides a home-like setting for terminally ill patient who have no where to live. The Villa has 8 beds (semi-private and private rooms), a beautiful living area, kitchen and outdoor patio. HospiceCare of SE FL, Inc. is the only hospice in the Southeast with a residence of this kind. Part of the funding for our Villa is provided by grants and donations.
