“Set the Butterflies Free”
Fort Lauderdale FL……….February 10, 2008, HospiceCare of Southeast Florida, Inc. hosted the annual commemorative butterfly release “Set the Butterflies Free”, a tranquil display of life and remembrance of those we miss. As guests entered the courtyard they were serenaded by guitarists from North Broward Preparatory as the beautiful afternoon evolved into a joyful memory while hundreds of butterflies were set free by the participants at the Gazebo Garden located in Fort Lauderdale.
This memorable celebration was inspired in 2003, by Betty Kaufman, a hospice volunteer. An invocation was performed by Reverend Joe Flores followed by a touching reading in unison from the Book of Ceremonies by Gabriel Horn and a name reading of those remembered and loved. After the closing prayer, many guests toured the “Forget-Me-Not Center”.
The “Forget Me Not Center” is one of the newer additions at HospiceCare, where one may share memories, fears, rituals, hopes and helpful information about how to get through the pain of loss. Hospice offers family counseling, children's programs, retreats, memorials, art and pet therapy through this center.
“This is a remarkable day to share with friends, family, staff and new visitors. It was the perfect day to reflect on our blessing and remember those we love and miss. We are also so proud to share our, “Forget-Me-Not-Center” to the community”, said Susan G. Telli, CEO of HospiceCare of Southeast Florida, Inc. “We would love to extend a special thank you to Dignity Memorial, GreatHouse Butterfly Farm, Betty Kaufman, Butler's Pantry, North Broward Preparatory and the Staff/Volunteers of HospiceCare, for supporting this memorable event.”
A donation was accepted for each butterfly released. In addition, a commemorative butterfly lapel pin and acknowledgement card was sent to the designated recipient. This is an ideal way to remember family and friends.
