Final Results: Competition Tackle's 13th Annual Dolphin Round Up
Fishing Report-29 June 2009

Competition Tackle's 13th Annual Dolphin Round Up for Hospice was not a Pipe Dream but reality for Anthony Catapano who tackled the competition (pun intended) and took home approximately $4,000.00 in cash and prizes for his 41.6 pound Bull Dolphin. Anthony caught his winning dolphin on a Sea Spook rigged squid with purple sea rogue and a Star Rod. Gray Taxidermy, one of the event's sponsors, has graciously offered to mount the winning fish.

Second place has Mike Stella of Salty Stella (below) winning $750 in cash with his 32.14 pound dolphin.

Third place got Paola & Mario Bermudez of Aqua Tech $500 in cash for their 29.9 pound dolphin.

Close and worth a mention, Bob Pisut of Sideline won fourth place fish missing by a few ounces with his 29.6 pound dolphin.

Neal Laue's team Plastered won the Chum Buoy Division with a 28.2 pound dolphin $1,000.00 cash plus prizes.

Besides her team taking Third Place overall, Paola Bermudez also won the Ladies Division with a 29.9 pound dolphin. That fish was also netted Paola a $500 gift certificate from Chic-She Boutique in Hallandale.

Second place in the Ladies Division was Gun Frebel of Have Gun Will Travel with a 27.5 pound dolphin. Gun received a gift certificate from Bahia Cabana Days Inn Resort.

Third Place goes to Ronna Cabral, from Fish On, with a 23.1 pound dolphin. Ronna won a gift certificate from Contours Day Spa.

In our Junior Division (ages 12 and under) First Place Junior Angler is John Ham from Yellow Bluewater with his 14.5 pound dolphin.  John received a Penn Spinner Rod and Reel combo.

Second Place Junior was Hunter Davis who caught a 13.5 pound dolphin. Hunter got tickets for him and his family to the Kennedy Space Center.

Third Place Junior, Amelia Pinckney, aboard Go Girls, caught a 6.2 pound dolphin. She wins family passes to Sawgrass Recreation and passes to Lion Country Safari.

Fourth Place Junior Mason Clifton won 2 passes to fish on the Flamingo Drift Boat for his fish, a 4.6 pound dolphin. In the Fun Fish Division, a 22pound black fin tuna caught by Ryan Rasberry for the team Bimini Bound was the winner. Ryan receives $ 250 cash from Head Start Lures.

Honorable Mention, Jenna Laue, won a gigantic basket of sweets donated Ronna Cabral. She also won family passes to Butterfly World. Jenna would have won Top Junior with this catch except that her team had previously weighed a 28 pound dolphin which made her fish ineligible.

As teams enter the fourth and final week of Competition Tackle's 13th Annual Dolphin Round Up for Hospice, Anthony Catapano leads aboard Pipe Dream with a 4l.6 pound Bull Dolphin.

This also makes Paola the leading Lady Angler for our Ladies Division.   Fourth place is Plastered with Neal Laue's 28.2 pound dolphin.  Laue also leads the Chum Buoy $1000 fish-off.

Jenna Laue, shown here with her Dad, Neal, would have moved into the Top Junior position with this catch except that her team had previously weighed a 28 pound dolphin which made her fish ineligible. She deserves an Honorable Mention! You go Girl!

 
ROUND-UP 2009 FISHING REPORT: Week Two
June 8, 2009

Eighty Teams have weighed in 52 eligible fish during the first week of Competition Tackle's month long Dolphin Round Up for Hospice. Setting the pace in first place and pictured below are Captain Sylvain Portal (on the right) with Angler Terry Scott. The team aboard Blue Water Reefer, caught a 25.2 pound Dolphin. The pace has been set!

In second place is Triple Tail, Captain Dan Elver and Angler Damien Kohut check in with a 21.2 pound Dolphin. Third place is Hooked Up with Angler Steve Hadley bringing in a 12.5 pound dolphin.

The large majority of anglers are weighing their smallest fish first to gain entry tickets for valuable prize drawings.  Each time a team weighs in a fish weighing more then their last catch they earn another ticket. In search of "the big one" to win an estimated $5,000.00 purse.  Last day to fishing is June 27. Awards Party June 28.

On the second and final day of Competition Tackle's 2009 Dolphin Dash for Hospice, 45 four angler teams looked into the face of torrential rains and took on the challenge and it paid off. Anglers found hungry fish ready to fight for their dinner!

Captain Joe Freeman maneuvered FIN CITY with his wife Beverly in between raindrops to score a long and lean 32.6 pound bull dolphin for First Place. That fish will net FIN CITY $937.50. Joe and Beverly were Third Place winners in the 2008 Dash.

Competition Tackle's Dolphin Dash, the Warm Up a prelude to the 13th Annual Round Up

On the first day of Competition Tackle's 2-day Dolphin Dash Capt. Robert Moreschi, shown here with friend Josh (last name not given) on board Riggin& Jiggin boated a 29.4 pound cow to take the lead. Second place in the Dolphin Dash with a 16.3 bull is Angler Ed Ellison aboard Yellow Blue Water.  Third Place is Mike Thompson aboard Go-Girls with a 14.3 pound fish.

The second day of fishing for the Dash is Sunday, May 24th. The Dolphin Dash serves as a warm-up event for the month long Dolphin Round Up designed to benefit Hospice Care of Southeast Florida.  The Round Up begins June 1st.

Sign up for the Dolphin Round Up at Competition Tackle before May 31st to be eligible to win.  Entry is $175.00 for a Team of Four Anglers.
