Saturday, December 9, 2006, started out with gloomy weather, but that was definitely not the atmosphere at the 1st Annual Luncheon at the Grande in Key Largo to benefit Hospice Care of Southeast Florida, Inc.
As the guests arrived, laughter and joyful conversation filled the grand foyer. An amazing array of silent auction items were immediately on display as guests scurried to sign the bid sheets in hope theirs would be the final bid. A beautiful, one- of- a- kind, handmade quilt, "Florida Fun", donated by the Florida Keys Quilt Society, was raffled at the luncheon to one lucky guest. There were also many wonderful items available for purchase outright by local contributors. What a day it was!
Each of the 240 luncheon guests, were greeted with a "goody bag" as they entered the main ballroom. While enjoying their entrée's, they were also treated to an entertaining fashion show compliments of Angelika's of Islamorada.
Pam Godfrey, a local radio personality, acted as Mistress of Ceremonies and Lonnie Quinn, from NBC-6, was the featured guest speaker. Throughout the luncheon, the friendly banter between Pam and Lonnie also helped to raise the awareness of the positive and caring aspects of hospice focusing on the importance of dignity to the patient and their family members.
After the last guest left and all the money totaled, the Monroe branch of HospiceCare of Southeast Florida raised well over $80,000 that day!
We wish to thank Alison Shamblen, Kathy Lsseter and their committee, along with all of the volunteers for their unbelievable and tireless efforts that made this day a total success.
We also wish to thank the generosity of individuals and businesses in our community. Without them, our success could not have been accomplished!
