Press Release- HospiceCare Sails with Success
Skippers and their crews attended the Skipper's meeting hosted by the Fort Lauderdale Yacht Club on Friday, May 20th. On Saturday, May 21st, the boats set sail on the twelve mile course providing tough competition in a relaxed atmosphere offering variety of classes and skill levels. The race teams raised funds for a worthy cause-care of patients and families facing end of life decisions. The overall winner to be represented at the National Hospice Regatta Championship in 2006, "Wahoo" was skippered by Bourg/Rice. The highest fundraising boat received the Wes Holmes Memorial Cup Trophy: Les Cheneaux skippered by Brown/Snyder. Others boats that placed were Contrails skippered by Jim Wallace and E-Ticket skippered by Dan Myers. Last place award, the Cook's Trophy was skippered this year by Roy Rindom in Turnabout II.

The New England clambake following the Regatta is held on Esplanade Park and features Maine lobsters, New England clam chowder expertly prepared and served by Hugh's catering, as well as the steel drum band, "Nori Nori". Over 650 guests came out to enjoy the Reggae relaxed atmosphere while bidding on cruises, weekend getaways, and gift baskets provided by many supporters. The clambake began around 6:30p.m. and continued until 10:30p.m. "We are delighted to have such a supportive group involved with the Regatta. We couldn't do this without the community we serve, thank you to everyone who is involved! We look forward to seeing you next year for the 10th Annual Regatta." said Susan G. Telli, CEO of HospiceCare of Southeast Florida, Inc. This year's sponsors include: H& R Block, Matusalem Rum, Marine Industries Association of South Florida, International Yachtsman Magazine, Las Olas Magazine, AutoNation, Lauderdale Yacht Club, Capt. Ed's Seafood, Hugh's Catering, Gulfstream Sailing Club, and Hillsboro Inlet Sailing Club. The Regatta is a volunteer driven event and all proceeds benefit the patients and their families of HospiceCare of Southeast Florida, Inc.
