VOLUNTEERS TRAINING

Volunteers are the heart and soul of HospiceCare of Southeast Florida, and are important members of the teams who offer emotional support and comfort to both the patients and their families. Hospice volunteers vary in ages, ethnicity, social and professional backgrounds and all share a common desire to serve their community.

Volunteers, who wish to work with patients, are required to attend two nine-hour training courses on two consecutive Saturdays at an informal setting in the comfortable living room at Hospice. At the training course, the following subjects are covered:

The history of hospice and in particular HospiceCare of Southeast Florida
Meet other members of the team such as a chaplain, social worker, nurse, and active volunteers in an open forum
Have a tour of Bougainvilla, Forget-Me-Not Center and the Meditation Garden
Communications and Listening
Setting Boundaries
Stress Management
Spiritual Diversity
Funeral Customs
Bereavement and Grief
Concepts of Death and Dying
Pain and Symptom Management
Care and Comfort Measures

Volunteer applications are available on line.
